  • What is the difference between Ed Code eligibility and DSM diagnosis at Madrone Assessments?
Both Ed Code eligibility and DSM diagnosis are important in education and psychology but have different purposes. At Madrone Assessments, we handle both for a full evaluation. Ed Code eligibility is used by schools to see if a student qualifies for special education. It checks how a student’s disabilities affect their learning and participation in school based on state and federal rules, ensuring they get the right support. A DSM diagnosis is made by a licensed educational psychologist using the DSM from the American Psychiatric Association. It identifies mental health issues like ADHD, anxiety, or learning disabilities, helping with planning treatments, therapy, and medications outside of school, giving a full picture of the student’s mental health. At Madrone Assessments, our licensed educational psychologists are skilled in both Ed Code eligibility and DSM diagnoses, providing a complete view of a student’s educational and psychological needs. We aim to give detailed and correct assessments that help educators, students, and families.
  • What is an IEP?
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a customized educational plan designed to meet the unique needs of a student with a disability. It is a legally binding document developed by a team of educators, parents, and specialists that outlines the specific support and services the student will receive to ensure their academic success.
  • What is a 504 plan?
A 504 plan is a legally binding document under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, designed to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to education. The plan outlines specific accommodations, modifications, and supports that allow the student to learn in a regular classroom setting. These accommodations might include changes in the physical environment, instructional modifications, or behavioral strategies tailored to the student's needs.
